VSO BAHAGINAN LAUNCHES ITS KABAHAGI PROGRAMME WITH SERIES OF VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT WORKSHOPS
As part of its initiative to encourage and motivate active citizenship through national volunteering, VSO Bahaginan recently kicked off its KaBAHAGI Programme, a multi-stakeholder volunteering programme support initiative designed to help volunteer-involving and volunteer-placing organizations.
Thirty-three representatives of 21 organizations working with volunteers participated in a Basic Volunteer Management System (VMS) Benchmarking Workshop in November at the UP Bahay Kalinaw. The Benchmarking Workshop was conducted to develop a tool that volunteer placing and involving organizations can use to systematically assess the level of development of their volunteer management practices. The tool is envisioned to provide organizations with valuable insights on how they can continually enhance the way they manage and work with volunteers.
VSO Bahaginan views this tool as a strategy to identify best practices in volunteer management and scope out areas where VSO Bahaginan can support volunteer organizations in the Philippines and abroad, particularly South East Asia.
In addition, VSO Bahaginan held the first of four modules of its KaBAHAGI Programme Basic VMS Workshop, which aims to enable volunteer organizations to design a volunteer management manual and establish a strategy on how they can enhance their volunteer programmes. The four modules will be spread out in a five-day workshop to be conducted from December to February, and will include two clusters of participants-Business Cluster and GA-NGO Cluster.
The initial module held in December allowed participants to look into volunteering as a concept and as a strategy to contribute to local and global development and see how it contributes to their organizational vision and mission. Discussions focused on the elements of a VMS, development of a volunteer management manual and crafting of a strategic plan to enhance their volunteering programmes.
Following this workshop, VSO Bahaginan will make a call for volunteer mentors to provide post-training mentoring assistance for a pre-identified span of time to help organizations polish their VMS and/or volunteer programmes.
