Pakistan warns the US against increasing military action
13/01/2010
Pakistan's government has warned the US that stepping up its military operations in the Asian country could jeopardise relations between the two countries.
The US has recently introduced further drone aircraft to various regions of the country in order to target Islamic militants, Reuters reported.
However, Pakistan's foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that he discussed some "red lines" with US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke.
Mr Qureshi is quoted by the news provider as saying: "Pakistan feels that it will undermine our relationship if there's [an] expansion of drones and if there are operations on ground."
According to the publication, drone attacks to the south-west province of Baluchistan could further aggravate local rebels seeking autonomy and create conflict in the region.
Last month, Medecins Sans Frontieres named Pakistan as one of the world's most troubled nations, due to the "intense violence" that threatened the welfare and health of its people in 2009.
